Phantom is a fully remote company hiring a Trust, Risk & Safety Engineer to safeguard users, products, and the platform. You’ll build real-time risk controls, KYC and monitoring systems, and tools for incident response across the stack while balancing user experience with financial risk.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in software engineering, strong product judgment, and experience with data-intensive systems. Remote work spans international teams; competitive equity and benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field or equivalent practical experience
• 8+ years of full-time software engineering experience
• Experience designing and operating reliable, data-intensive production systems
• Strong product judgment balancing user experience, financial risk, and operational complexity
• Ability to work across frontend, backend, APIs, data pipelines, and third-party integrations
• Demonstrated interest in protecting users and building trustworthy financial products
• Nice to have: experience with fraud, risk, identity, KYC, AML, sanctions, payments, fintech, or blockchain systems
• English language proficiency

Responsibilities

• Build real-time risk controls and decisioning systems for payments and money movement experiences.
• Develop signals, models, and interventions that identify malicious wallets and transactions.
• Build scalable KYC, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, case management, and audit systems.
• Create pipelines and tools that combine on-chain activity, product data, and third-party signals into risk insights.
• Partner with product and engineering to design safeguards into new features.
• Develop internal tools for Risk, Compliance, Support, and Security teams to investigate incidents.
• Help establish the engineering foundations and culture for a new risk function at Phantom.
