Job summary

Focused is seeking an experienced full‑stack engineer to help build ai-powered software with a strong emphasis on code quality and end-to-end delivery. You will collaborate with designers, product managers, and clients to ship features across backend, APIs, and modern frontends.

You’ll pair daily, apply TDD, and leverage FastAPI/Express, React/Vue/Svelte, and Docker in cloud environments. Office presence in Chicago is required for this contract‑to‑hire role.

Qualifications

• Hands-on, full stack engineer in agile environments.
• Proficient in Python and/or JS/TypeScript with solid OOP.
• Understand async/await and the event loop, plus concurrency.
• Value code quality; emphasis on tests, regression suites, and CI gates.
• Knowledge of REST fundamentals and ORMs like SQLAlchemy, Django ORM, ActiveRecord, or Prisma.
• Ability to modify a React, Vue, or Svelte frontend and ship changes.
• Experience deploying containerized apps to a cloud provider; IAM, scaling, logging, observability.
• Experience collaborating with clients or product stakeholders and explaining tech clearly.

Responsibilities

• Write code across the stack, delivering features end-to-end.
• Build API services with FastAPI/Express and ensure clear validation and schemas.
• Pair program daily with teammates/clients to share knowledge and improve quality.
• Practice TDD and refactor to maintain reliability and maintainability.
• Containerize, deploy, and monitor apps in the cloud with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with designers, PMs, and stakeholders to continuously deliver value.
• Define metrics and run experiments to validate what works in production.
• Explore GenAI patterns and contribute to AI-powered software projects.
