Job summary

Edison Scientific, Inc. is seeking a Member of Technical Staff (Full-stack, Backend-Focused, Python) to build and support our core platform for scientific discovery. You will design backend services, APIs, and data pipelines while contributing to user-facing features.

The role emphasizes ownership from concept to production, collaborating with frontend engineers, designers, and researchers to deliver end-to-end functionality. On-site in San Francisco, part of Product Engineering.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, with exposure to backend and frontend development.
• Strong proficiency in a backend language (Python or Node.js), with a focus on Python.
• Experience designing and consuming APIs (FastAPI, REST; GraphQL a plus).
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks (React, Next.js) and modern web practices.
• Working knowledge of relational or document databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized environments (Docker; Kubernetes a plus).
• Experience with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and basic automated testing.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain backend services, APIs, and databases powering the platform.
• Contribute to frontend features and workflows in collaboration with frontend teams.
• Build and extend data pipelines supporting AI agents and research workflows.
• Implement monitoring, observability, and automated testing for reliability.
• Troubleshoot issues across the stack and improve system quality.
• Collaborate with engineering, design, and research teams to ship new features.
