Job summary

Planet is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack) to join the Global Monitoring Service App Team. You will design features across the full stack using React, TypeScript, and Python, and mentor engineers to ensure engineering best practices.

You will contribute to backend services and REST APIs, work with geospatial data, and drive frontend-backend integrations. This role supports remote work in the United States with optional office collaboration.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building and operating web applications end to end.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other relevant field.
• Proficiency with React, TypeScript, and component-based frontend architecture.
• Proficiency with a server-side language such as Python or Go.
• Experience designing, building, and operating backend services and REST APIs in production.
• Working knowledge of relational databases, data modeling, and query performance.
• Experience defining API contracts and integrating frontend and backend systems.
• Ability to lead feature implementation from discovery through deployment and production support.
• Ability to improve team capabilities through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Professional working proficiency in English, the language of the company.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features across the full stack, from user interface through API and data layers.
• Develop and maintain applications using React, TypeScript, and Python.
• Build and evolve the APIs and services that power the application, including data access and integration with upstream geospatial systems.
• Mentor other engineers through code reviews and technical discussions.
• Drive architectural decisions spanning frontend and backend, including component design, state management, API contracts, and service boundaries.
• Own features end to end, including deployment, observability, and production support.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to deliver solutions.
