Job summary

Planet Labs PBC is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack, to drive end-to-end features across the GMS app. You will work across frontend and backend, mentoring peers while delivering data-rich geospatial solutions built atop Planet's satellite data.

This role emphasizes scalable APIs, robust UI, and strong collaboration with product teams. The role is full-time and remote in the United States, with occasional onsite collaboration if near an office.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building and operating web applications end to end.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or another relevant field.
• Proficiency with React, TypeScript, and component-based frontend architecture.
• Proficiency with a server-side language such as Python or Go.
• Experience designing, building, and operating backend services and REST APIs in production.
• Relational databases, data modeling, and query performance.
• Experience defining API contracts and integrating frontend and backend systems.
• Ability to lead feature implementation from discovery through deployment and production support.
• Ability to mentor teammates and improve engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features across the full stack, from UI to API and data layers.
• Develop and maintain applications using React, TypeScript, and Python/Go.
• Build and evolve APIs and services powering the application, including data access and geospatial integrations.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical discussions.
• Drive frontend/backend architectural decisions and API contracts.
• Own features end to end, including deployment, observability, and production support.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to deliver solutions.
