Job summary

Planet Labs PBC is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack for its Global Monitoring Service (GMS) App Team. You will design and implement features across the full stack, mentor engineers, and drive frontend/backend architectural decisions to deliver near-real-time monitoring insights from satellite data.

You will work in a remote role based in the United States, with potential collaboration from offices.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building and operating web applications end to end.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other relevant field.
• Proficiency with React, TypeScript, and component-based frontend architecture.
• Proficiency with a server-side language such as Python or Go.
• Experience designing, building, and operating backend services and REST APIs in production.
• Working knowledge of relational databases, data modeling, and query performance.
• Experience defining API contracts and integrating frontend and backend systems.
• Ability to lead feature implementation from discovery through deployment and production support.
• Ability to improve team capabilities through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Professional working proficiency in English, the language of the company.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features across the full stack, from UI through API and data layers.
• Develop and maintain applications using React, TypeScript, and Python.
• Build and evolve APIs and services powering the application, including data access and integration with geospatial systems.
• Mentor other engineers through code reviews and technical discussions.
• Drive architectural decisions spanning frontend and backend, including component design, state management, API contracts, and service boundaries.
• Own features end to end, including deployment, observability, and production support.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to deliver solutions.
