Job summary

Forward Air Corporation seeks a qualified Forklift Operator to perform loading, unloading, staging, scanning, and movement of freight in our dock/warehouse environment. You will operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts and other MHE, ensuring accurate documentation and safe handling at all times.

As an experienced team member, you may mentor newer Material Handlers and contribute to maintaining productivity, quality, and safety in a dynamic multimodal terminal setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification/licensure (or ability to obtain before operating equipment) required.
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Willingness to learn basic computer systems, handheld scanners, and freight-tracking devices.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs with assistance.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using sit-down/stand-up forklifts and other MHE.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors, trailers, and designated areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping and delivery.
• Assist drivers with loading and unloading following safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight to ensure accuracy and documentation integrity.
• Identify damaged freight and report safety or equipment issues promptly.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized dock environment and safety compliance.
• Support dock productivity and overall operational goals.
• Learn equipment operation and safety protocols under supervision.
• Train and mentor other Material Handlers as needed.
