Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems seeks a Principal / Sr. Principal Digital Design Engineer for the Eastern Engineering team in Linthicum, MD. You will develop digital logic for space systems, drive FPGA design using Xilinx/Microsemi tools, and validate designs in a high-assurance environment.

The role requires experience with VHDL or similar languages, strong communication, and the ability to mentor junior engineers. Clearance readiness is essential, and the position may require US citizenship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in STEM with required experience (Level 3) or advanced degrees with differing experience.
• Experience designing, architecting, and using various FPGAs in processor designs (VHDL or high-level language a plus).
• Experience defining and executing development test plans and/or methods.
• Must be a U.S. citizen; ability to obtain DoD Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop digital logic designs for space applications (satellite command/control, sensor data processing).
• Design and modify digital logic with FPGA IDEs (Xilinx, Microsemi).
• Simulate and verify FPGA logic designs and system-level validation.
• Collaborate with multi-functional teams to develop solutions and communicate across functions.
• Document design analyses and test reports.
• Work with program reviews and provide clear technical presentations.
