Job summary

Fairwinds Technologies is seeking an FPGA Design Engineer to develop programmable logic for RF/Signal Processing on Zynq UltraScale+ platforms. You will implement RTL, perform timing closure, and validate designs on PCB hardware, collaborating with DSP and embedded software teams.

The role emphasizes high-throughput architectures, DSP integration, and interfacing with high-speed data converters. A DoD security clearance or ability to obtain one is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of FPGA design and development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Verilog and/or VHDL.
• Deep experience with RTL simulation tools such as Siemens Questa and Vivado Simulator.
• Hands-on experience using Xilinx Vivado for synthesis, implementation, timing closure, and debug.
• Hands-on experience with Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC; Versal devices preferred.
• Experience developing FPGA designs for PCB-based embedded systems.
• Experience translating DSP algorithm specifications into RTL implementations.
• Strong understanding of AXI protocols, CDC, resets, and timing constraints.
• Experience debugging with ILA/VIO/JTAG-based tools.
• U.S. Citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain).
• Experience with high-speed data converters (ADI ADRV9009, AD9081) and TI AFE/ADC.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and verify FPGA logic using Verilog and VHDL within the Xilinx Vivado toolchain.
• Develop programmable logic architectures for signal processing and high-speed data movement.
• Implement DSP algorithms into FPGA fabric designs (filters, FFTs, channelizers, modulators).
• Define and implement PL–PS interfaces (AXI-Lite, AXI-Stream, DMA, interrupts).
• Integrate FPGA designs with embedded processors and heterogeneous compute architectures.
• Perform functional simulation, timing analysis, and resource optimization.
• Support FPGA bring-up and debugging on custom PCB hardware.
• Develop test benches, validation strategies, and design documentation.
• Support prototype-to-production transitions and ECO management.
• Design interfaces with high-speed data converters (JESD204B/C, LVDS).
• Develop multi-sample per clock architectures for wideband RF processing.
• Apply RF signal processing knowledge to front-end design.
