Job summary

SimTech, Inc. in Huntsville, AL, is seeking a Senior FPGA Design Engineer to join our defense-focused team. You will design, verify, and integrate FPGA-based digital systems for radar and missile seeker technologies.

You will work with Verilog/VHDL, DSP concepts, and industry tools to meet strict performance, timing, and reliability targets. This role requires a U.S. citizen with active security clearance and offers growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of FPGA design experience in digital systems development or related engineering fields.
• Extensive experience with Verilog, VHDL, and HDL-based design methodologies.
• Strong understanding of digital logic design and FPGA architectures.
• Experience with FPGA simulation, timing analysis, and hardware integration.
• Proficiency with Xilinx Vivado, Intel/Altera Quartus, Synplify, ModelSim, Verdi or equivalent.
• Knowledge of DSP concepts, algorithms, and implementation techniques.
• Experience with RS-232, RS-422, UART, SPI, and I2C.
• Experience integrating FPGA firmware with embedded hardware, software applications, and system-level components.
• U.S. Citizenship with Active Secret Security clearance and ability to maintain clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, and test FPGA-based digital systems for aerospace, defense, and advanced technology applications.
• Develop, modify, and maintain FPGA firmware using Verilog, VHDL, and other HDLs.
• Create and execute simulation and verification test benches for FPGA designs.
• Perform FPGA synthesis, timing analysis, debugging, and optimization.
• Integrate FPGA firmware with hardware components, embedded processors, and software applications.
• Design and implement communication interfaces and protocols (RS-232, RS-422, UART, SPI, I2C).
• Support lab integration, hardware bring-up, system verification, and troubleshooting.
• Analyze firmware/hardware designs to reverse engineer functionality and develop documentation.
• Develop DSP functions including filters, FFTs, modulation/demodulation, and error-correction algorithms.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, software, and test engineers for system integration.
• Support design reviews, documentation, test planning, and customer presentations.
• Evaluate emerging FPGA technologies to improve capabilities and efficiency.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
