About Flying Horse Capital
Flying Horse Capital is a permanent capital firm that acquires founder- and family-owned businesses and holds them for the long term. No fund life. No five-year clock. No forced exit. We buy good businesses and keep them. That ownership model changes what this job is. The reporting you build, the models you create, and the processes you fix stay in place and compound. You are not building a package for the next owner.
About the Role
We are hiring a Senior FP&A Analyst for one of our portfolio companies in the Philadelphia metro area. You will be employed by the operating company and report directly to its CFO. We will share the company name and full business detail in the first conversation.
This is a build-it role, not a maintain-it role.
You will be the analytical backbone of the finance function - owning the budget and forecast, standing up reporting that leadership actually uses to run the business, and giving the CEO, CFO, and ownership a clear line of sight into what is driving performance.
You will not be one of twelve analysts refreshing a slide that someone else presents. You report directly to the CFO, you will sit close to the operators, and your analysis will be in front of decision-makers within days of producing it. The on-site days matter for the same reason - the context that makes the numbers mean something comes from being in the building.
What You'll Own
Planning and forecasting
- Build and maintain the annual operating budget and rolling forecast, working directly with department leaders
- Own the 13-week cash flow forecast and short-term liquidity planning
Reporting and analysis
- Produce the monthly reporting package for company leadership and Flying Horse Capital ownership, including variance analysis with real explanations for what moved and why
- Build and maintain KPI dashboards for operations, sales, and executive leadership
- Analyze unit economics, project and customer profitability, margin, and cost structure
Business partnership
- Partner with operations leaders to translate financial results into operating decisions
- Support pricing analysis, bid and quote review, and margin improvement work
- Evaluate capital projects and investment requests, including ROI and payback analysis
Systems and process
- Improve the reporting infrastructure - data pulls, models, and reporting cadence - so closing the loop gets faster every quarter
- Support ERP and reporting system improvements alongside the accounting team
- Contribute to acquisition diligence and integration analysis as the company grows
What We're Looking For
Required
- 4+ years in FP&A, corporate finance, transaction advisory, audit, or a comparable analytical finance role
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
- Advanced Excel - you can build a clean, auditable driver-based model without a template
- Strong command of the financial statements and how operating decisions flow through them
- Ability to explain financial results in plain language to people who do not work in finance
- Located in or willing to commute to the Philadelphia metro area three days per week
Preferred
- Experience at a lower-middle-market, private equity-backed, or family-owned company where the finance team is small and the scope is wide
- CPA, CFA, or MBA
- Experience with a mid-market ERP and a BI tool such as Power BI or Tableau
- Exposure to M&A diligence or integration work
How You Work
- You go find the answer rather than waiting to be handed the data
- You are comfortable building something that did not exist before
- You have judgment about what matters and what is noise
- You want to be in the business, talking to operators - not behind a screen all day
Why This Role
- Ownership stability. Permanent capital means improvements you make stay made.
- Direct line to the top. You report to the CFO and your work is visible to the CEO and ownership.
- Real scope. Planning, reporting, operations, capital allocation, and eventually acquisitions.
- Room to grow. This seat is a direct path to Controller and Director of Finance responsibility.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary of $110,000-$140,000, commensurate with experience
