Spectrum Search is partnered with a well-backed AI technology company hiring a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer to build and deploy production AI solutions for customers across the wellness sector. This is a hands-on engineering role combining software architecture, applied AI and direct customer delivery.

About the opportunity

The company is expanding its customer-facing engineering team following continued commercial growth. This opportunity sits within the application engineering function and offers significant ownership across the full technical lifecycle, from early solution design and requirements gathering through to implementation, integration and production deployment.

The role is approximately 70% hands-on engineering and 30% customer-facing technical work, with scope to influence the wider product based on patterns identified through real-world deployments.

The role

You will operate as an engineer and architect, working directly with customer technical and data teams to translate business workflows into robust, production-ready AI systems.

This requires someone comfortable making architectural decisions, writing production code and communicating technical trade-offs clearly to both engineering teams and senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical delivery across pre-sales, requirements gathering, solution design, implementation, testing and post-sale integration
• Architect and build customer-facing AI agents and applied AI solutions
• Design complete system architectures, including APIs, integration patterns, observability and fallback strategies
• Build data ingestion and ETL/ELT pipelines across structured and unstructured data sources
• Integrate solutions with customer platforms, applications and data infrastructure
• Run technical discovery, architecture and working sessions with customer teams
• Personally write and ship production code rather than focusing solely on scoping or prototyping
• Feed lessons from customer deployments back into the core platform and product direction
• Strong software engineering background with experience building complex customer-facing systems end-to-end in production
• Proven ownership of customer technical delivery, including requirements gathering, architecture, implementation and integration
• Strong system design skills and the ability to produce and communicate complete architecture diagrams
• Practical experience with data engineering and machine learning pipelines, including ETL/ELT, document ingestion or unstructured data
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern production engineering practices
• Strong client-facing communication with the ability to lead technical sessions and present architectural decisions clearly
• Ability to work autonomously across ambiguous technical problems and take ownership from initial concept through production

Nice-to-haves

• Experience building large language model (LLM) applications, AI agents or orchestration systems
• Knowledge of prompt engineering, function calling, structured outputs, guardrails and AI observability
• Experience with technologies including React, Next.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, WebSockets, Docker, CI/CD, AWS, GCP or vector databases
• Founding engineering, early-stage startup or high-growth technology company experience
• Exposure to machine learning, data science, healthcare technology or wellness applications

Location and remote setup

This is a full-time, remote US position. Candidates working Eastern or Central time zone hours are preferred, although Pacific time zone candidates may be considered. The team meets in New York for quarterly offsites. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
