Location: Remote (US) | Type: Contract (12 months) | Experience: Senior
About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer to design and ship agentic AI applications for corporate functions: Finance, HR, Legal, Procurement, Marketing, and Sales operations. You'll embed with the people who own the process and take a real business problem from idea to a working, production-grade solution in weeks, not quarters.
You'll usually be the only technical seat in a small pod alongside a process owner and a business sponsor. The applications you build run multi-step workflows, hold state across many users, and act directly on enterprise systems of record. That's a lot harder than a chatbot, and it's the point of the role. You'll build on Microsoft Fabric and Azure AI services for an enterprise of roughly 50,000 people, through a global technology consulting firm.
This is a 12-month remote contract with an ASAP start and a three-step interview process: a practical build exercise, a systems design discussion, and a stakeholder conversation. If you want the autonomy to build serious AI systems properly, this is the role.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and harden agentic AI applications that read from and write to enterprise systems of record, grounded on Microsoft Fabric and Azure AI services
- Embed with a corporate function team as technical lead of a small pod, moving from problem to prototype to production at pace
- Run tight iteration loops (align on the outcome, prototype, gather feedback, refine) in one to two weeks each
- Own quality end to end: security, reliability, scalability, observability, and safe, governed write-back to source systems
- Make the right build call for each problem, whether that's low-code and agent-builder platforms or custom code
- Make sure the data behind each solution is AI-ready in Fabric, modeled, governed, and documented with lineage and access control that will hold up to audit
- Set and document the reusable patterns, components, and guardrails the wider team applies on every engagement
- Get credible in a new business domain quickly, and push back on requirements when the requested solution isn't the right one
Qualifications
Required
- Proven experience building agentic or multi-agent AI systems that run in production and serve real users (working systems, not demos)
- Strong command of state management, concurrency, idempotency, and authorization for systems that act on a system of record on behalf of many users
- Hands-on integration experience with enterprise APIs and data platforms, including safe read and write paths and graceful failure handling
- Working knowledge of modern AI application patterns: RAG, prompt and context design, agent orchestration, tool use, and protocols like MCP
- Strong, hands-on command of a major cloud platform, ideally Azure, owning an application end to end rather than only consuming pre-built services
- A track record of rapid prototyping with AI-assisted development
- Senior IC judgment: you can make architecture and feasibility calls alone, under time pressure, and explain them to non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Microsoft Fabric experience (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Real-Time Intelligence, Power BI, OneLake) or a comparable enterprise data platform
- Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Azure AI Foundry, or agent-builder platforms such as Lyzr or Moveworks
- Integrations with corporate systems of record like Oracle HCM, SAP, Workday, Salesforce, Dynamics 365, or ServiceNow
- Familiarity with identity and access management, data classification and residency, responsible AI policy, and model output evaluation
- A background that blends engineering with consulting, business transformation, or a corporate function discipline
Why Join Us
You'll be working with a small, senior team that's trusted to build AI systems that change how a very large business operates day to day. The pods are lean, the feedback loops are short, and the people you build for are right next to you.
If you've ever been frustrated by AI work that never gets past a demo, this role is built to ship.
