Job summary

Forward Air Corp. in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a dedicated Forklift Operator to support loading, unloading, and staging freight in a fast-paced dock environment.

You will operate sit-down/stand-up forklifts, use handheld scanners, and ensure accurate documentation while adhering to safety procedures. This role requires 3+ years of dock experience and a valid forklift certification.

Schedule Monday–Friday with occasional overtime; pay rate is $19 per hour.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain before operating equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, written and verbally.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic for freight counts and weights.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight with forklifts and MHE.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading following safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight with handheld devices.
• Identify damaged freight and report safety or equipment concerns.
• Maintain a clean, safe dock and comply with PPE policies.
• Learn equipment operation and safety protocols on the floor.
• Support dock productivity and meet operational goals.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Lead task assignments when required without direct supervisory duties.
• Train and mentor other Material Handlers.
