Job summary

Norstella is seeking a Senior Forge AI Engineer to pioneer Forge—an autonomous agentic platform replacing traditional SDLC with end-to-end, agent-driven workflows. You’ll span orchestration, MCP server design, RAG pipelines, and safety primitives in production.

You’ll tackle challenges in memory, trust, cost attribution, and compliance within a regulated environment, shipping real systems already in use.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years building and operating production-grade LLM-powered or agentic systems.
• Experience with at least one agentic framework (LangGraph, CrewAI, Autogen, Semantic Kernel, MCP, or comparable).
• Hands-on experience authoring MCP servers or designing tool-use APIs with explicit contracts and versioning.
• Experience with agent memory architectures and long-term memory stores across multi-step workflows.
• Strong Python and/or TypeScript fundamentals; able to own production agent code end-to-end.
• Proficient in prompt engineering, tool/function calling, and multi-step orchestration with non-deterministic systems in production.
• Knowledge of RAG patterns, vector databases, and AI/ML safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agents across the Forge chain: orchestration, tool-use surfaces, MCP server integrations, prompt and RAG pipelines.
• Own multi-agent coordination architecture: inter-agent trust boundaries, message contracts, partial failure handling, recovery.
• Develop and evolve the MCP server layer: tool schema design, capability contracts, versioning.
• Design agent memory and state management: context windows, long-term memory, persistence across workflows.
• Own end-to-end agent quality: eval harnesses, benchmarks, continuous evaluation pipelines, release criteria.
• Instrument observability: token tracing, tool-call chain logging, cost attribution per run.
• Build safe-by-design primitives: least-privilege tool-use, PII/PHI handling, validation, security partnerships.
