Job summary

Maryland State Police, Forensic Sciences Division, is seeking a Forensic Scientist Supervisor to manage the Biology Section's Technical Unit and oversee casework, validations and laboratory support. The role includes review of casework, training, and potential expert testimony, in alignment with DHMH COMAR regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant physical, natural or forensic science from an accredited college or university.
• Five years of experience in comparative analysis or scientific evaluation of evidence in the supervised discipline.
• Experience providing testimony as an expert witness in moot or criminal court.
• Substitutions: additional experience for education; Master's or Doctorate may substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Technical Unit within the Biology Section.
• Manage proficiency testing and ensure quality system compliance.
• Review casework analysis and ensure accuracy.
• Complete proficiency tests per schedule and maintain competency.
• Coordinate with the Forensic Scientist Manager and other supervisors on issues in Forensic Biology.
• Supervise and mentor forensic scientists and fill in as needed.
• Provide expert testimony when required.
• Ensure adherence to FBI Quality Assurance Standards.
