Job summary

The State of Maryland is looking for Assistant Medical Examiners to join the Maryland Department of Health's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. This role involves performing autopsies, investigating causes of death, and supervising technical staff. You will be involved in daily operations, case evaluations, and teaching opportunities.

Applicants must possess an MD or DO, complete a forensic fellowship, and maintain licensure in Maryland. A comprehensive benefits package is also offered.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine Degree (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or equivalent.
• Successful completion of an ACGME approved Forensic Fellowship program.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Maryland.
• Ability to obtain Board Certification in Forensic Pathology.
• Availability to be on 24‑hour call two‑three times per month.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates death scene information.
• Performs autopsies and prepares reports.
• Reviews medical records and police reports as necessary.
• Supervises the work of autopsy technicians.
• Teaches Fellows, visiting residents and medical students.
