Job summary

MDH Laboratory Services seeks a Director of Laboratories Administration to provide executive leadership and scientific oversight for the Maryland Public Health Laboratories Administration. You will ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and coordinate operations across Baltimore and regional facilities.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in specified fields.
• Board certification by an HHS-approved board; proof required at time of application.
• At least 2 years of laboratory training or experience, including directing or supervising high complexity testing.
• At least 20 continuing education credit hours in laboratory practice covering director responsibilities.
• Ability to provide expert consultative services in public health laboratory practice and maintain CLIA certification.

Job description

The Director of Laboratories Administration provides executive leadership and scientific oversight for the Maryland Public Health Laboratories Administration, a nationally-renowned facility with a $60 million budget and over 200 staff members. This role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, oversees a central laboratory in Baltimore and two regional facilities, and coordinates rapid laboratory response to public health threats, bioterrorism, and disease outbreaks. The Director manages all operational, scientific, and administrative functions to deliver accurate scientific data essential for disease prevention, environmental protection, and emergency response.

Key qualifications:

• Earned doctoral degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
• Board certification by an HHS-approved board; proof required at time of application
• At least 2 years of laboratory training or experience, including experience directing or supervising high complexity testing
• At least 20 continuing education credit hours in laboratory practice covering director responsibilities
