Job summary

Southland Industries in Texas seeks a leader to supervise a small work crew, ensure safety and productivity, and act as liaison with management or clients on job sites. Qualifications

• Familiarity with other construction trades and crafts.
• Knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety regulations as well as company safety policies and procedures
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts
• Ability to manage differences and diversity at the workplace
• Strong planning and scheduling skills
• Ability to handle administrative duties of position, including completion of required documents
• Effective use of computers and other technology
• High school degree or equivalent
• 5+ years’ experience as a qualified tradesperson
• OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
• An active Texas Journeyman Plumber license may be required for individuals performing and supervising work in this field.
• Employment is contingent upon active membership in the appropriate local trade union

Responsibilities

• Facilitate a safe work culture.
• Ensure crew members adhere to safety standards and are fit for work each day.
• Lead toolbox talks and answer technical safety questions.
• Participate in safety investigations and reviews.
• Maintain clean, safe, organized work areas.
• Orient new crew members and assess individual competencies.
• Assign tasks and coordinate on‑the‑job training for apprentices.
• Maintain work standards and promote teamwork.
• Prepare reports and maintain foreman’s log.
• Ensure THA is performed daily and communicate shortages to superiors.
• Review project activities to meet production goals and timelines.
• Identify tool/material needs and address deficiencies.
• Ensure work meets plans/blueprints and quality expectations.
• Resolve scheduling conflicts and advise on equipment/material shortages.
• Support superintendent with progress reporting and quality checks.
