Job summary

Umbra is seeking a Senior/Staff Flight Software Engineer to design, implement, and integrate high-reliability flight software for Mission Solutions. The role focuses on architecture, coding, unit testing, and system integration with spacecraft hardware.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience, strong Rust/C/C++, and Linux proficiency, with a TS/SCI clearance and willingness to travel. On-site positions are in Reston, VA or Arlington, VA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of professional experience in high-reliability software.
• 5+ years in concurrent/asynchronous software.
• Experience with Rust and/or C/C++ for embedded software.
• Experience on SoC-based architectures in Linux.
• Knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, IPsec.
• Experience with cybersecurity requirements and NSA-approved cryptographic systems.
• Willingness to travel 10-20%.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain flight and payload software.
• Architect software to meet system requirements and interfaces.
• Create and maintain software operation documentation.
• Develop and test command/control software for spacecraft operations.
• Contribute to test campaigns from unit to system level.
• Explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Take on additional duties as needed.
