Job summary

Umbra is seeking a Senior/Staff Flight Software Engineer to design, implement, and integrate flight and payload software for mission-critical space systems. You will guide architecture, write code, and oversee tests, interfacing with flight hardware and cyber-secure components.

Qualifications

• BS in CS/CE or related technical field.
• 8+ years building high-reliability software systems.
• 5+ years with concurrent/asynchronous software.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance.
• Experience leading software for satellite bus or spacecraft.
• Full SDLC experience—requirements to maintenance.
• Strong embedded dev in Rust and/or C/C++.
• Linux-based, SoC-oriented software development.
• Knowledge of Ethernet TCP/IP and IPsec.
• Experience with NSA-approved crypto systems.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to design flight and payload software.
• Architect and implement software meeting system requirements and interfaces.
• Create and maintain software operation and interface documentation.
• Develop and test command and control software for spacecraft.
• Participate in unit and automated system/subsystem tests.
• Explain complex concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Take on additional professional duties as assigned.
