Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a senior software engineer to drive low-level and high-level software across satellite, ground station, and mission operations platforms. The role emphasizes hands-on development, architecture, and end-to-end product delivery for space missions.

The ideal candidate will contribute across the software stack, from microcontrollers to user interfaces, with focus on application data management, reliability, and in-orbit support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
• 8+ years in software development with a BS, or 7+ years with an MS.
• Experience in developing multiple flight software systems.
• Hands-on development and troubleshooting of software/hardware.
• Proficiency in C or C++ programming.
• Experience interfacing open-source software to integrated systems.
• Familiarity with software configuration management tools and defect tracking.
• Excellent understanding of multi-threaded applications and resource management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement software to build and integrate mission systems (satellites, ground stations, mission ops centers).
• Architect, design, develop, code, test, debug, and document space software.
• Serve as subject matter expert on space software systems across CesiumAstro.
• Review code and system designs for quality and reliability.
• Analyze code for efficiency, stability, and scalability.
• Integrate and validate new product designs in hardware/software environments.
• Provide expert guidance to direct product design decisions.
• Support software QA and optimize input/output performance.
• Provide post-production/in-orbit customer support.
• Interface with hardware design and development engineers.
• Mentor junior team members on best practices.
• Evaluate third-party and open-source software for integration.
