Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation, a trusted partner to national space programs, seeks an Engineering Specialist/Senior Engineering Specialist in Flight Mechanics to provide expert trajectory design, astrodynamics and systems analysis for launch vehicles and spacecraft. You will collaborate across disciplines to deliver innovative, mission-critical solutions for national space programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical/astronautical engineering, physics or applied mathematics, or related disciplines.
• Eight or more years of experience in flight mechanics, astrodynamics, maneuver optimization, trajectory optimization, launch vehicle trajectory design, hypersonic vehicle modeling, or related areas.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages/environments: C, C++, Fortran, Python, Linux, and/or MATLAB.
• Ability to operate independently and deliver high-quality, innovative end products under ambiguity.
• Willing to travel domestically ~10% and be eligible for US security clearance (TS with SCI)
• Advanced degree is strongly desired for the Senior Engineering Specialist – Flight Mechanics role.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize trajectories for launch vehicles and spacecraft in multiple Earth orbits.
• Perform astrodynamics analyses including orbit propagation and maneuver design.
• Evaluate propulsion systems and perform mission performance assessments.
• Develop and integrate new flight dynamics tools and algorithms.
• Collaborate with teams to deliver stand-alone services or integrated submodules.
• Apply AI/ML techniques to flight mechanics analyses where applicable.
