Job summary

Steel Dynamics, Inc. is seeking a Fleet Operations Manager to lead the SouthWest division's transportation activities, including dispatch, maintenance, and staff supervision. The role ensures regulatory compliance and cost control while delivering reliable service to customers and end users.

Ideal candidates bring a business/logistics degree or equivalent experience, strong problem-solving skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Union experience is a plus but not required.

Qualifications

• College degree in business or logistics, or 5 years of fleet leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state DOT laws and regulations.
• Experience operating a medium-sized fleet and routing.
• Excellent problem solving with safe, effective resolutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication, well organized with time management.
• Union environment experience preferred but not required.
• Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

• Manage divisional fleet operations including dispatching, dispatch personnel, drivers, maintenance, cost and equipment.
• Oversee transportation staff (drivers, payroll, dispatch, admin, and maintenance) for SouthWest division.
• Ensure preventative maintenance and repairs meet budget limits.
• Operate fleet in compliance with DOT regulations and company safety rules.
• Deliver excellent customer service through dispatching and order fulfillment.
• Coordinate with Marketing and Operations and other internal departments.
• Negotiate 3rd party freight rates.
• Monitor utilization, rates, and driver performance.
• Verify payroll accuracy.
• Perform other projects as assigned.
