Job summary

New Mexico Department of Transportation District Five seeks a skilled automotive mechanic to diagnose and repair light gasoline engines and heavy‑duty diesel equipment. You will diagnose, repair, overhaul trucks, and prepare parts and labor estimates for approval.

Ideal candidates have part‑ordering experience, know how to use scanners and diagnostic computers, provide customer service, and can work independently with limited supervision. A Class A CDL is required within one year of hire.

Qualifications

Experience in ordering mechanic parts.
Ability to diagnose equipment through the use of scanner and computer.
Customer service experience.
Ability to work and make decisions independently without supervision.
One year of work experience in a repair shop or maintenance facility; related education may substitute.

Responsibilities

Diagnose problems, perform repairs, overhaul trucks, gasoline, and diesel-powered equipment.
Prepare purchase requisitions for parts and supplies and estimate labor and parts for management approval.
Support internal NM Department of Transportation employees and respond to emergencies as needed.
