Job summary

Astronics is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Firmware to design, develop, integrate, and maintain firmware for embedded Linux and microprocessor-based systems. The role collaborates with hardware and software teams through the full product lifecycle, including training and on-site collaboration in Waukegan, IL.

The ideal candidate brings extensive firmware experience, strong C/C++ skills, and the ability to contribute independently while leading technically.

Qualifications

• BS in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years of work experience in related positions.
• Experience with ISO 9001/14000/DO-178C and AS9100 is preferred
• Extensive experience with microprocessor firmware and Linux kernel/driver development
• Strong familiarity with BSP creation/support and configuring kernel modules on Linux variants

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, and maintain firmware and software for embedded Linux and microprocessor-based systems.
• Analyze requirements and feasibility within time and cost constraints.
• Deploy and maintain Linux BSP distributions or firmware across hardware.
• Interact with Linux kernel and integrate device drivers.
• Review hardware designs and assist with board bring-up and troubleshooting.
• Provide pre-sales support and contribute to proposals.
• Coordinate transfer to production and factory support for firmware issues.
