Job summary

Astronics Corporation is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Firmware to design, develop, and maintain firmware for embedded Linux and microprocessor-based systems. The role spans the full lifecycle, from requirements through production support, with heavy collaboration across hardware and software teams.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years in related fields, hands-on expertise with Linux kernel and device drivers, and strong C/C++/Python coding skills.

Qualifications

• BS in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years in CS/SE/CE/EE roles.
• Experience with ISO/DO-178C/AS9100 preferred.
• Firmware and Linux kernel/driver development experience.
• Experience with Ubuntu, Yocto, Debian, AlmaLinux or similar.
• C/C++, Bash, or Python coding for firmware and tooling.
• Experience with version control and issue tracking (GitHub, SVN, JIRA).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Formulate, architect, design, develop, document, integrate, test, and maintain firmware/software for embedded Linux targets.
• Analyze requirements and feasibility within time and cost constraints.
• Customize and deploy Linux BSPs or microprocessor firmware across hardware platforms.
• Interact with the Linux kernel and integrate device drivers.
• Improve and maintain software components; perform unit and integration tests.
• Review hardware designs and assist with board bring-up and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to optimize interfaces and performance.
• Provide pre-sales support and contribute to proposals.
• Coordinate transfer to production and support manufacturing and customer troubleshooting.
• Adhere to ethical and legal compliance; other duties as needed.
