Qualifications

Location: San Jose, CA 95124 | Fully Onsite

Contract Duration: 12 months, with a possibility of extension

Compensation: $50-$90/hour on W2, depending on experience and qualifications

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, with a lunch break

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Firmware Engineer 4 for a leading semiconductor client. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer passionate about low-level firmware, embedded systems, and high-speed electrical and optical interfaces.

You will contribute to firmware development for next-generation SerDes solutions, working closely with hardware designers, system architects, firmware engineers, and validation teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, debug, and optimize low-level firmware for high-speed SerDes systems.
• Develop firmware using C/C++, bare-metal programming, and Zephyr RTOS.
• Support control, calibration, and optimization of high-speed electrical interfaces and optical subsystems.
• Work with optical transceivers, silicon photonics, and photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
• Apply knowledge of Ethernet, PCIe, IEEE 802.3, and transceiver management standards.
• Perform hardware-level debugging and collaborate across hardware and software teams.
• Support firmware development, source control, and build management activities.

Required Qualifications

• 8-10 years of firmware development experience.
• Strong programming skills in C and C++, including basic object-oriented programming concepts.
• Hands-on experience with bare-metal firmware development and Zephyr RTOS.
• Experience developing firmware for high-speed SerDes systems.
• Knowledge of electrical and optical transceivers; optical experience is preferred.
• Understanding of PCIe and IEEE 802.3 physical-layer specifications.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CMIS and optical module management.
• Familiarity with JTAG, I2C bus analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
• Experience with silicon photonics, photonic integrated circuits, and high-speed electrical interfaces.
• Familiarity with source control and build management tools.

Interview Process

The interview process consists of 1-2 rounds and includes a basic coding test.

Important:

This is a fully onsite position in San Jose, California. Candidates must be comfortable working onsite five days per week and participating in an onsite interview as required.
