Job summary

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) seeks a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to design and oversee fire protection programs to maintain life safety systems in DOE facilities. You will apply NFPA, ICC, and DOE standards, perform hazard analyses, review codes, and mentor junior engineers.

The role emphasizes collaboration across operations, maintenance, construction, nuclear safety, and project teams to ensure compliance, reliability, and safety while delivering engineering solutions on complex

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field
  • Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered with qualification as a Fire Protection Engineer (QFPE 1 or 2)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fire hazard analysis
  • Conduct NFPA/ICC code reviews
  • Specify technical aspects of fire protection systems to ensure Life Safety compliance
  • Perform building walkdowns to assess for compliance according to Department of Energy standards
  • Mentor and provide direction to less senior engineers within the organization
  • Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems
  • Utilize SRNS systems and meet SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance
  • Accept complex tasks and receive minimal guidance from senior professionals
  • Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and complex features into problem solving and program planning
  • Provide limited guidance to less senior engineering professionals
  • Carry out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases
  • Develop alternate solutions to existing problems
  • Perform all detail work necessary to determine best solutions
  • Evaluate proposals and make recommendations
  • Delegate and manage portions of the detail work to less senior personnel
  • Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks
  • Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of tasks
  • Prepare manuals and other documents supporting the technical effort
  • Demonstrate creative ability through patent disclosures and technical papers
