Job summary

Design Hire is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead fire protection activities for new construction and renovations. You will coordinate with architects, engineers, and clients to develop practical, code-compliant solutions that protect occupants and meet regulations.

The ideal candidate has a Mechanical Engineering or Fire Science degree and a New York PE license, with experience in multidisciplinary building projects and strong writing skills for reports and client materials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Science.
• New York PE license required.
• Progressive experience in fire protection engineering and building systems design.
• Strong knowledge of fire and life-safety principles and applicable codes.
• Experience coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients.
• Ability to interpret technical requirements and communicate design recommendations.
• Strong technical writing and client-facing documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead Fire Protection Engineering activities for new construction, renovation, and other building projects.
• Perform Fire Sprinkler Design, Fire Alarm Design, Fire Code Analysis, and Egress Analysis coordinating with disciplines.
• Develop Fire Protection Hydraulic Calculations and support fire/smoke modeling (CONTAM).
• Prepare and review technical deliverables and project materials with quality control.
• Support business development through client coordination and proposals.
