Job summary

HED in Boston is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to lead design development and calculations for fire protection systems from concept through construction documents.

The role emphasizes independent ownership, code research, QAQC, and coordination with architectural and structural teams, with mentoring of junior designers and interns.

You'll engage in early design strategy, participate in project meetings, and support client interaction while tracking hours and contributing to resource planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) required.
• P.E. licensure required.
• 5+ years in the AEC industry preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development and calculations for fire protection systems through all project phases.
• Perform calculations, equipment sizing, and code compliance checks with minimal input.
• Prepare system descriptions, equipment schedules, and narratives.
• Develop and review layouts in Revit in coordination with architecture and structure.
• Coordinate with internal and external teams to resolve design conflicts.
• Review RFIs and submittals with lead engineers.
• Perform field verification and participate in construction observation.
• Support design strategy discussions and mentoring of designers.
