Job summary

Global Edge Group is seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer in Chandler, AZ on a contract basis. The role requires extensive experience with fire protection systems in high-technology environments such as semiconductors and AI datacenters or life sciences facilities.

You will specify systems, lead technical work, and coordinate with clients and subcontractors. The position involves mentoring staff, developing design guides, and ensuring compliance with NFPA, AHJ, and other applicable codes.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university or college, with 10+ years related to fire protection systems in Semiconductor / AI Datacenter or Life Sciences / Pharma industries.
• Capable of independently specifying fire protection systems, including selecting sprinkler types and hydraulic calculations for header sizing.
• Experience in wet pipe systems per NFPA 13, NFPA 14 and FM standards.
• Experience with fire protection equipment such as pumps, storage tanks and deluge systems.
• Knowledge of NFPA standards and calculations for fire protection in cooling towers deluge systems.
• Familiar with testing and regulatory acceptance per NFPA 13 and AHJ coordination.
• Experience in managing engineering subcontracts and coordinating with owners, teams, and regulatory authorities.
• Knowledge of ASME, IBC, IMC, and NFPA codes and discipline engineering techniques.

Responsibilities

• Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work in the mechanical discipline.
• Performs work that may include resolving conflicting design requirements and difficult coordination.
• Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment or work specifications, material requisition, and technical bid evaluations.
• Coordinates engineering efforts between groups, the client, suppliers and contractors.
• Assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or subgroups for assigned tasks.
• Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to management.
• Supports development of Engineering Department Procedures, design guides and SAPs.
• Mentors designers and drafters with on-the-job training for professional development.
