Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Orlando, FL is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design and coordinate fire protection systems across multi-discipline projects, including wet- pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, and foam/water fire suppression, plus addressable fire alarm systems.

Responsibilities include hydraulic calculations, life safety evaluation, construction administration, field inspections, and project budgeting.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field with 3 years of experience.
• ABET-accredited degree in Fire Protection or related Engineering Technology with FE and 3 years of experience.
• Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering with 2 years of experience.
• Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, NFPA standards, FM Global datasheets, and API guidelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Engineers in Training (EIT) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, specify, and coordinate multi-discipline fire protection systems (wet/dry pipe, pre-action, deluge, foam/water).
• Perform hydraulic calculations for fire water supply and demand.
• Evaluate life safety requirements including occupancy, egress, and smoke management.
• Provide construction administration, review shop drawings, and conduct field inspections.
• Perform site evaluations and document existing fire protection systems.
• Prepare project budgets and cost estimates.
• Ensure QA/QC adherence and safety policy compliance.
