Job summary

Colorado Department of Public Safety seeks a Fire Marshal/Investigator to perform structural, vehicle, and wildland fire origin and cause investigations. You will collect evidence, interview witnesses, preserve documentation, and prepare reports for court proceedings.

The role includes testifying in trials and training other investigators to maintain certifications. The position is hybrid with in-state travel as needed, and requires a Colorado resident with relevant certifications and

Qualifications

• Certification by the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI) as a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator or by the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) as a Fire Investigation Technician.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in fire origin and cause investigations.
• Proven history of providing courtroom testimony.

Responsibilities

• Conducts complex fire origin and causes investigations relating to arson and other fire incidents, including interviews and documentation.
• Collects, preserves, and photographs evidence following chain of custody procedures.
• Coordinates affidavits, warrants, and subpoenas; gives testimony in court and supports prosecutions.
• Provides training for investigators and serves as liaison with regional fire investigation professionals.
