Job summary

The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control is seeking a Fire Marshal III to perform complex fire origin and cause investigations, collect and preserve evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare detailed reports for court proceedings.

You will train investigators, liaise with local jurisdictions and partner agencies, and travel regionally as needed, including overnight and occasional out-of-state assignments. This hybrid role requires flexible shifts and adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Certification by NAFI as a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator or IAAI Fire Investigation Technician.
• Minimum of two years of experience in fire origin and cause investigations.
• Proven history of providing courtroom testimony.

Responsibilities

• Conduct complex fire origin and cause investigations, including interviews and evidence collection.
• Prepare detailed reports and submit to authorities with chain-of-custody documentation.
• Serve as liaison with local, state, and federal partners on regional investigations.
• Provide training and mentorship to internal and external investigators.
