Job summary

NorthStar Fire Protection is seeking an Alarm Design Lead to manage a team of design professionals on large-scale fire alarm projects. The role ensures projects stay on schedule, comply with codes, and meet design standards.

The position involves supervising Fire Alarm and VESDA design staff and maintaining high-quality documentation and client communication. The candidate will oversee on-site and remote design activities, handle RFIs, manage schedule and budgets, and collaborate with project

Qualifications

• 10+ years in the commercial fire and life safety industry in a leadership role.
• 10+ years designing Edwards and VESDA systems with Revit.
• Knowledge of NFPA, IFC, ADA, UL, IBC, NEC codes and related regs.
• Ability to read and understand drawings and wiring diagrams (electrical, network, control).
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, etc.
• NICET IV, Autodesk, BIM certifications preferred.
• Regular and reliable attendance; ability to work extended hours and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Lead design functions on a 100% on-site basis.
• Oversee on-site and remote design for fire alarm and VESDA systems.
• Manage RFIs; ensure scope matches contract and redline changes.
• Report progress and constraints using standard formats and portals.
• Review client deliverables such as submittals, shop drawings, IFFs.
• Coordinate with management and schedule lookahead planning and execution.
• Oversee budget and provide reports as required.
