The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Senior Financial Reporting Analyst. This position will prepare financial materials for internal and external stakeholders of the Stowers Group of Companies. The candidate is a member of the Accounting team and will report to the Manager of Financial Reporting.

Responsibilities include:
  • Compiling the monthly financial package that will be used by senior and executive management for strategic and tactical decision making.
  • Developing financial projections and building financial models.
  • Working with business users to refine and improve current reporting and analysis.
  • Assisting with the Institute’s annual audit by preparing PBCs, consolidated financial statements and footnotes.
  • Preparing schedules underlying financial statements and disclosures.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of accounting standards and preparing accounting memos.
  • Researching current accounting and reporting issues, trends and policies and procedures in order to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Preparing accurate and timely journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Submitting external surveys and ensuring accuracy of data.
  • Significant contributor for accounting and finance technology solution project implementations.
  • Contributing to the development of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Various ad-hoc projects as assigned.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter willing to commit the required effort to accomplish objectives and identify opportunities. Candidates should demonstrate solid problem-solving skills with the ability to think “outside the box” and innovatively. The ability to effectively prioritize one’s workload and manage changes in direction and priority is essential. Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work product will be vital. The successful candidate will be a team player who demonstrates and fosters a partnering attitude, while simultaneously being willing to challenge team members to strive to achieve goals.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required. CPA or MBA preferred.
  • 4-6 years of corporate and/or public accounting (audit) experience, with a minimum of 2-3 years of not-for-profit accounting experience, is required.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial practices is required.
  • Advanced level Microsoft Excel skills/knowledge is required.
  • Prior experience developing and preparing financial reports is required.
  • Ability to take analytical data and synthesize it in a reportable and understandable context for a non-financial audience is required.
  • Leases (Topic 842) accounting experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a major ERP system is preferred.
