Job summary

UF Health Gainesville is seeking a Financial Counselor to ensure financial integrity by managing billing and collections for professional services in the practice. You will enter charges, apply CPT/ICD rules, verify insurance, obtain authorizations, review accounts, resolve edits, handle work queues, and provide patient financial counseling.

The role requires strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with experience in EPIC and a customer-service mindset to support patients

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Financial Counselor preferred
• Three years of business/financial/physician practice experience required, e.g., preferably related to patient accounts and collections required
• Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9/10 coding preferred
• Four-year degree may substitute for two years of financial/physician office experience
• Associates degree or equivalent coursework may substitute for one year experience
• EPIC system knowledge preferred. Excellent communication, organization and problem-solving skills required
• Incumbent must be comfortable collecting payments and counseling patients regarding financial matters in a professional manner
• The ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, problem solve, and function in a team environment are necessary attributes of the successful incumbent
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Enter charges and apply coding/billing rules to maximize accurate collections
• Verify insurance and obtain service authorizations as needed
• Review patient account detail and resolve billing edits
• Work in queues to move accounts toward resolution and collections
• Provide financial counseling to patients and discuss payment options
• Supervise assigned clerical staff, schedule and monitor clinic workflow
• Support staff training, performance reviews and on-boarding of new hires
• Communicate with patients and families to resolve complaints and maintain positive relations
