Job summary

The City of Houston’s Finance Department seeks a Financial Analyst III to support the management and reporting of the finances of Houston IT Services. The role conducts in-depth examination of revenue and expenditures to aid leadership decisions and supports the enterprise IT Financial Management Roadmap.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
• Three years of professional experience in finance, economics, budget analysis or related area.
• A Master's degree may substitute for two years of the above experience requirement.

Responsibilities

• Process financial documents (budget transfers, expenditure corrections, journal entries) as instructed.
• Assist in the annual budget submission for each division and in the monthly MFOR reports.
• Perform routine variance analyses of HITS and citywide accounts.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, long-range financial planning, and financial modeling; prepare presentations for upper management.
• Collaborate with internal/external partners to analyze business needs and report findings clearly.
• Prepare year-end entries and assist with new accounting standards and procedures.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or closely related field
