Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking a proficient accounting professional to support the Department's BSD Accounting unit. This role manages accounts payable/receivable, performs financial analysis, and supports monthly close and budget preparation.

Under supervision, you will generate reports, track external billing, develop process improvements, and mentor junior analysts in financial systems and best practices. A strong foundation in Excel and financial modeling is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs reporting/analysis for the Service Delivery Unit, including independent report generation, analysis, projections, and verification of accuracy of financial information.
• Initiates, tracks, and reports on external billing agreements and prepares associated monthly/quarterly invoicing.
• Performs ad hoc reporting/financial analysis as needed by Senior Director and Executive Administrator.
• Assumes lead responsibility for maintaining files related to spend analysis.
• Assists in reporting deliverables and department functions with increasing independence.
• Participates in the creation of the annual operating budget, including analysis of actual financial information to inform budget.
• Performs accounts payable and accounts receivable tasks to ensure timely and accurate payment of invoices and billing.
• Responsible for check deposits/claiming funds and ensures proper COA/POETAF deposition.
• Provides assistance to departments and SDUs in chart of account utilization and data access, becoming a subject matter expert on Oracle and Orbit.
• Leverages Excel and other tools to streamline and automate reports.
• Mentors analysts on financial processes, systems, and best practices.
• Represents the SDU team with an operational-excellence mindset.
