Milacron, LLC is seeking a Senior Field Service Technician to lead installations, commissioning, and optimization of plastic injection molding equipment. You will diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and software issues, traveling to customer sites and providing on-site and remote support. The role emphasizes proactive problem solving, training, and customer satisfaction.

  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and software-related issues independently.
  • Perform root-cause analysis to identify recurring failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, servo systems, and motion controls.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product Development teams to support new product implementations.

Job description

Milacron is looking for a Senior Field Service Technician to join our team in the Midwestern United States. In this position, you will be responsible for leading the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of plastic injection molding equipment, retrofit control systems, automation upgrades, and aftermarket equipment while serving as a technical expert for customers and internal teams.

Work You’ll Do:
  • Lead field installation, startup, commissioning, and validation of retrofit control systems, automation upgrades, and aftermarket equipment on plastic injection molding machines.
  • Serve as the primary technical expert for diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, controls, and software-related machine issues.
  • Perform advanced root cause analysis to identify recurring equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, servo systems, motion controls, and machine communication networks.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Controls Engineering, and Product Development teams to resolve technical issues and support new product implementations.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, ladder logic, and mechanical drawings to diagnose failures and restore machine operation.
  • Provide expert-level technical support to customers both on‑site and remotely, minimizing equipment downtime and production losses.
  • Lead complex retrofit and rebuild projects while coordinating activities between customers, contractors, engineers, and field service personnel.
  • Mentor and train less experienced technicians on troubleshooting methodologies, diagnostics, and service best practices.
  • Conduct customer training on machine operation, controls, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Document service activities, corrective actions, installation reports, and technical findings with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, equipment upgrades, and service enhancements that improve machine reliability and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships through professional communication, technical expertise, and responsive support.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent military/industry experience.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial manufacturing equipment, preferably injection molding machinery.
  • Demonstrated expertise diagnosing electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, controls, and software-related issues independently.
  • Proven experience leading complex machine installations, rebuilds, startup activities, or field service projects.
  • Strong understanding of machine controls, industrial automation, and industrial electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues and solutions clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and service documentation systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work overtime as business needs require.
  • Advanced troubleshooting of industrial machine controls and automation systems preferred.
  • Plastic injection molding machine diagnostics and repair experience preferred.
  • HMI and operator interface configuration and diagnostics experience preferred.
  • Variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo systems, and motion control troubleshooting experience preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial electrical systems up to 480V preferred.
  • Hydraulic systems troubleshooting experience, including pumps, valves, manifolds, cylinders, and proportional controls preferred.
  • Mechanical repair, alignment, machine calibration, and rebuild experience preferred.
  • Industrial networking and machine communications experience preferred.
  • Root cause failure analysis and corrective action implementation experience preferred.
