Job summary

ERM is seeking an experienced Senior Consultant, Field Lead Archaeologist to drive field programs and regulatory analyses across the United States, including travel to active project sites.

The role combines field leadership with office-based work, supporting environmental decisions and cultural resource stewardship in dynamic project settings. Notable responsibilities include producing technical reports, liaising with agencies, and contributing to business development.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years (4+ preferred) of professional experience.
• Field Lead experience in the Southwest.
• Eligibility for regulatory permits (BLM, ARPA, state permits).
• Strong knowledge of NHPA Section 106 regulations.
• Experience authoring agency-reviewed technical reports.
• Ability to lead field efforts independently or in a team.
• Willingness to travel across the United States.
• Fieldwork up to 75% during peak season; physical endurance for long walks and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Experience with field technologies (GPS, GIS, mapping).
• Valid driver's license; ability to travel to client sites.

Responsibilities

• Conduct archaeological surveys, testing, data recovery, and construction monitoring.
• Prepare technical report sections for cultural resource investigations and environmental documents.
• Perform archival and desktop research to support project analyses.
• Collaborate with regulatory agencies (SHPO, BLM).
• Support environmental permitting and compliance processes.
• Partner with cross-functional teams (planners, biologists, GIS specialists, engineers).
• Represent ERM in client, stakeholder, and agency interactions.
• Contribute to business development in cultural heritage services.
