Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a dedicated Special Inspector to perform field and laboratory inspections of construction materials and activities across diverse projects. You will review plans and codes, document test results, and report findings to project teams with accuracy and integrity.

The role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication, and the ability to work independently in a field environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; associates/bachelor's preferred.
• Minimum 3 years in construction inspection or materials testing.
• ICC Special Inspection certifications preferred (Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Soils, Steel & Welding).
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I desirable.
• AWS CWI certification desirable.
• NICET in construction/geotechnical inspection preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and/or laboratory inspections of construction materials and activities (concrete, masonry, welding, soils, fireproofing, structural steel).
• Prepare detailed inspection records and test results.
• Interpret plans, specs and codes to ensure compliance.
• Communicate findings to project managers, contractors, and engineers.
• Maintain certifications and pursue continuing education.
