Job summary

Thompson Engineering seeks an experienced Special Inspector to perform field and laboratory inspections of construction materials and activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications and codes. The role requires strong technical knowledge, accurate record-keeping, and effective communication with project teams.

Ideal candidates will have 3+ years in construction inspection, relevant ICC/ACI/CWI certifications, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent; AS/B.S. in engineering/construction management preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in construction inspection or materials testing.
Current ICC Special Inspection certifications (Concrete, Masonry, Soils, Steel & Welding).
ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I.
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
NICET certification in construction or geotechnical inspection (preferred).

Responsibilities

Perform field and laboratory inspections of construction materials and activities such as reinforced concrete, structural masonry, welding, soils, fireproofing, and structural steel.
Prepare and maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and observations.
Interpret project plans, specifications, and codes to ensure compliance.
Communicate with project managers, contractors, and engineers to report findings and resolve issues.
Maintain certifications and continuing education as required.
