Job summary

Technibus, Inc. is seeking a Senior Field Engineer – Structured Cabling to lead installation, testing, and support of structured cabling systems in data centers and commercial environments.

Senior Field Engineer – Structured Cabling
Job Summary

The Senior Field Engineer – Structured Cabling is responsible for leading the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and support of structured cabling systems in commercial, industrial, data center, and mission-critical environments. This position serves as a technical resource for field operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards and customer requirements. The Senior Field Engineer provides technical leadership, mentors junior technicians, and works closely with project teams, customers, and vendors to deliver high-quality telecommunications infrastructure solutions.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
  • Lead installation, termination, testing, and certification of copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to field technicians and project teams.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and scope documents to ensure compliance.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Structured Cabling Installation
  • Install and support Category 5e, Category 6, Category 6A, and fiber optic cabling systems.
  • Perform copper and fiber terminations, splicing, and patch panel installations.
  • Install cable pathways including conduit, cable tray, ladder rack, basket tray, and J-hooks.
  • Install and support telecommunications rooms, MDFs, IDFs, and data center infrastructure.
  • Ensure all installations meet BICSI, TIA/EIA, NEC, and customer standards.
Testing and Troubleshooting
  • Perform cable testing and certification using Fluke and other industry-standard test equipment.
  • Conduct OTDR, power meter, and fiber certification testing.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot network infrastructure issues.
  • Analyze test results and provide corrective actions when needed.
  • Generate and review test reports and project closeout documentation.
Project Coordination
  • Coordinate field activities with project managers, superintendents, customers, and subcontractors.
  • Participate in project meetings and status updates.
  • Track project progress and communicate risks, issues, and delays.
  • Assist with change orders, material management, and quality assurance inspections.
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within scope.
Safety and Compliance
  • Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct work in accordance with OSHA regulations and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure all work meets quality control and customer expectations.
