Job description

Field Engineering Responsibilities
  • Closeout redlines, test audits, lessons learned, warranties, and product submittals. Leads and superintendents will oversee submitting changes to the Scope of Work; redlines will be completed and submitted to engineering by Field Engineers. Engineering will create an internal calendar to track tasks and deadlines. Build‑out will involve extensive redlining for measurements, equipment placements, and grounding/bonding. Field Engineers will verify all infrastructure is installed to design/spec and finalize redlines for closeout.
  • Fiber: Use an internal tracker for ISP redlines. The design provided by IES customers is updated to reflect past changes. Field Engineers will check and verify the entire fiber scope.
  • Copper: The internal tracker for copper provides all necessary information for close‑out. The Field Engineer may be the POC to confirm installation to print; any changes are redlined and submitted. The Field Engineer verifies all copper before close‑out.
  • Network: If needed, the Field Engineer will configure the details and work with the team to implement network redlines. The Field Engineer may take on most of these responsibilities.
  • RFI referencing/implementation: Field Engineers reference RFIs on the redlines as a final task before QA review.
  • Test audits: Field Engineers run and verify audits after project completion, including cable schedule verification, test execution, and audit process management. They ensure testing projects match prints, are ready for the team, and send re‑tests with expected completion dates. Audits are finalized per the project schedule.
  • Lessons learned: Engineers and QA actively update the lessons‑learned template throughout the build, concluding each project with a review. The lessons‑learned tracker is used for documentation.
  • Warranties: Field Engineers gather warranty information toward the end of the build and coordinate document submissions.
  • Product submittals: The first product submittal is completed once the RFP is issued. The submittal is built from a template, verifying BOM with POs and obtaining product sheets.
  • Labels: Field Engineers print labels for installation teams and manage bins and sign‑out sheets. Reprints are requested via email with reasons.
  • RFI oversight: The Field Engineer may oversee all RFIs before submission, ensuring design‑related feedback is recorded as lessons learned. RFIs are formally circulated to applicable teams.
  • Design (shop drawings): Field Engineers verify and brainstorm quality gaps, submit to BIM360, and manage revisions, hyperlinks, and related documentation.
  • Areas of focus: Infrastructure (grounding/bonding), copper and fiber detail sheets.
Qualifications
  • Physical and Mental Requirements: Self‑motivated, positive, professional, leading process improvement. Promotes company culture. Strong problem‑solving, critical thinking, effective communication, customer service. Diagnoses and fixes equipment problems. Enthusiastic, patient, critical thinker. Reads and writes project documentation, including blueprints, specifications, reports, and quality requirements. Travels within branch or regional territory as needed.
  • Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements: High School diploma or GED (Bachelor’s preferred). 3–4 years commercial low‑voltage/structured cabling experience. Collaborates well with others. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project). Meets company driving standards. Manages multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
