Job summary

Kansas Department of Transportation in Topeka seeks a Senior Electronic Technician to manage the collection of accurate traffic data and oversee the installation and maintenance of continuous and portable electronic data equipment and communications gear. The role supports coordination with traffic control and utility companies in the state.

The incumbent will perform repairs/maintenance on traffic data sites statewide, assist with inventory, restocking shop vehicle supplies and equipment

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in electronic repair.
  • Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs on-site testing, maintenance and repair of all KDOT continuous electronic and electro-mechanical traffic counting and communications equipment at approximately 120 locations throughout the state.
  • Installs permanent traffic counting equipment, detectors, and AC or solar power sources, erection of suitable equipment cases, installing telecommunication equipment, and installing and connecting recording equipment.
  • Monitors automated data download process, manually downloading sites not auto-downloaded, and does preliminary quality and completeness checks.
  • Cleans, repairs and services portable traffic counters and equipment used for other surveys including electronic weigh in motion equipment and electronic vehicle classification equipment.
  • Constructs, modifies and evaluates devices for diagnosis and repair of existing equipment.
