Job summary

Prolific Machines is seeking a Field Deployment Engineer to install, commission, and support our optogenetic platform in real-world environments. You will own deployments from site readiness to handoff, troubleshoot across mechanical, electrical, optical, software, and bioprocess systems, and mentor junior engineers onsite.

This role is based on-site in Emeryville, CA, with 30–40% travel to customer sites, and requires hands-on lab and biomanufacturing work in dynamic startup settings.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in engineering; 5+ years deploying complex engineering systems.
• Experience deploying, commissioning, integrating, and supporting prototype systems in lab, manufacturing, or customer environments.
• Willingness to travel 30–40% domestically and internationally.
• Strong systems engineering mindset across mechanical, electrical, optical, software, controls, and process systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead hands-on installation, integration, startup, and commissioning of alpha, beta, and deployed systems.
• Troubleshoot and fix complex system-level issues across multiple disciplines in time-critical situations.
• Own deployments from site readiness through commissioning, handoff, and ongoing support.
• Develop deployment plans, site requirements, commissioning procedures, system tests, and acceptance criteria.
• Train customers and partners during deployment and provide ongoing troubleshooting support.
• Define deployment strategy, workflows, and documentation to improve repeatability and scalability.
• Mentor junior engineers and field technicians in deployment practices.
• Perform test engineering on deployable and prototype systems.
