Job summary

Prolific Machines in the San Francisco Bay Area (Emeryville, CA) seeks a Senior Scientist to advance its optogenetic platform through rigorous analytical work and team leadership. You will execute core assays, determine titers, and assess product quality, enabling robust development programs.

The role balances hands-on lab work with coordinating resources, mentoring Research Associates, and ensuring data integrity across LC-MS, HPLC/UPLC, CE, and related techniques.

Qualifications

• PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field with 5+ years of biologics industry experience, or an MS/BS with equivalent relevant industry experience.
• Demonstrated throughput improvements in high-volume analytics environments.
• Hands-on expertise in chromatographic and electrophoretic methods for biologics and LC-MS protein characterization.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day execution of core platform assays (Protein A titer, SEC, CE-SDS, icIEF, intact/subunit mass, released glycans).
• Coordinate Research Associates across projects and translate results into clone/process decisions.
• Maintain system suitability criteria, control standards, and performance trending; troubleshoot drift.
• Design and interpret characterization studies (size/charge variants, PTMs, glycosylation, mass, mapping).
• Write/SOPs and reports to ensure data consistency across analysts.
• Maintain analytical instrumentation and coordinate vendor support.
