Job summary

Marion County Public Schools is seeking a qualified Building Code Inspector/Plans Examiner to inspect district construction projects for code compliance with Florida Building Code and SREF standards. You will review documents, coordinate with the Building Official, and maintain detailed inspection records throughout all project phases.

The role requires a minimum five years of related experience, state certification eligibility, and a valid Florida driver’s license.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum five years of verifiable experience as an inspector, plans examiner, licensed contractor, or related licensed trades.
Certification as a Building Code Inspector in Building/Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, or Fire, or ability to obtain within 11 months of hire.
Valid Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

Inspect District construction projects during Florida Building Code phases for code compliance.
Review amendments and changes to construction documents for compliance with SREF and other standards.
Coordinate inspections and final approvals with Building Official and district staff.
Maintain weekly inspection reports and project records.
Ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and regulatory standards.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Building Official.
